Serge Aimé Coulibaly

From Tuesday, January 31 to Sunday, February 5

With Kalakuta Republik, Serge Aimé Coulibaly has created an activist play which will awaken our hearts and consciences.

The choreographer from Burkina Faso took his inspiration from the passionate life of Fela Kuti, singer, saxophonist and Nigerian musician. This activist artist spent his life combating the corruption of the government and the multinationals set up in his country. Kalakuta Republic reflects this urgency on the stage by sensual and virtuoso dancing and songs inspired by the music of this legendary personality.

Before the creation of the performance at the Maison de la Danse in March 2017, the musée des Confluences will vibrate during this residency to the sounds of Afrobeat, a synthesis of jazz, funk and traditional Nigerian music!
A unique opportunity to discover the creative process for a highly-coloured play, which poses in a crucial way the issue of the activism of the artist and our openness to all kinds of differences.

In partnership with the Maison de la Danse.
