Congolese Rumba

Cie Fred Bendongué

From the street to the stage, Fred Bendongué developed his confidence with the hip hop movement but quickly surpassed its forms and then went on to learn classical dance with the best and created his own style.
This lecture on dance presents the research of Fred Bendongué on Congolese Rumba, “this sounding board for the illusions and disillusions of African independence.” Many journeys back and forth to Kinshasa marked the path of the choreographer, giving rise to several creations, including a tribute to Patrice Lumumba, the emblematic Congolese leader who incarnated the African independence struggles.
